My career as a diabetes educator began at the University of Miami, Diabetes Research Institute patient clinic. As a psychotherapist on a multi-disciplinary team consisting of a diabetes nurse, a nutritionist, an exercise physiologist and myself, we provided adjunct services to the patient's physician in an attempt to treat the entire patient, not just his or her disease.

In addition to providing counseling services to patients, I also helped train residents and diabetes product representatives in the intricacies of diabetes beyond medical treatment.
